About Tammy Craven

Tammy Craven serves as a cornerstone of the criminal defense team at The Williams Firm, focusing on General Sessions charges and major criminal cases. With a career spanning decades across law enforcement agencies, prosecutors’ offices, and legal support, Tammy brings unparalleled insight and efficiency to the clients she supports. Her dedication to justice and her ability to manage complex cases from beginning to end have made her an essential member of the firm.

In her role, Tammy manages a wide array of responsibilities, including scheduling client meetings, maintaining client communication, and coordinating with courts, prosecutors, and law enforcement agencies. She diligently tracks court dates, organizes preliminary hearings, meticulously reviews discovery, and ensures that every motion, notice, and piece of correspondence is carefully prepared and filed on time.

Tammy also plays a vital role in the intake and management of case evidence. She organizes and maintains client case files, making sure that critical materials such as discovery documents, law enforcement reports, video/audio evidence, such as bodycam or surveillance footage, are received, reviewed, and stored appropriately. Her attention to detail is especially valuable in tracking discovery materials such as forensic reports, witness statements, law enforcement bodycam or dashcam footage, surveillance videos, and arrest records, ensuring that the firm’s attorneys are fully prepared for every stage of litigation.

Thanks to her extensive experience and deep familiarity with the criminal justice process, Tammy helps bridge the gap between the law, the courtroom, and the client, always with empathy, precision, and professionalism.

Education

Tammy’s career in criminal law is built on a solid foundation of firsthand experience and years of service. While her background does not follow the traditional path of legal education, her on-the-ground experience with the South Carolina Highway Patrol and the First Circuit Solicitor’s Office has given her a practical education in the legal system that few can match.

Her early professional experience working for Dr. Robert L. Smoak helped her develop administrative and client-interaction skills that continue to benefit her work at the firm. Tammy also spent time working at the Rehab Center at The Regional Medical Center (now MUSC), gaining valuable experience in patient care and coordination – an experience that deepened her compassion and commitment to service.

Her nearly decade-long tenure with the South Carolina Highway Patrol and over 21 years at the First Circuit Solicitor’s Office, from which she retired, gave her an exceptional command of case processing, evidence review, and courtroom procedure. Her time with both prosecution and law enforcement allows her to anticipate challenges, navigate systems efficiently, and offer insights that significantly benefit The Williams Firm’s clients.

Community Involvement

Tammy is a proud native of Cordova, South Carolina, where she was born, raised, and continues to reside. Her roots in the community run deep, and her professional and personal lives are intertwined with the people, families, and organizations that make Orangeburg County what it is today.

She has dedicated her entire career to public service, from law enforcement and public health to criminal prosecution and now criminal defense. Whether she’s coordinating with local law enforcement agencies or helping a family navigate the legal process, Tammy brings a sense of care and responsibility that reflects her deep investment in her community.

Outside the office, she supports small businesses in her area by shopping local and attending community events, and she’s a familiar face at local farmers’ markets and craft fairs. Her connection to Cordova and the surrounding areas is both personal and professional, and she brings that hometown integrity to everything she does.

Beyond the Office: Fun Facts and Interests
